O Canada! Fun and Flight

Proper Attire on Canada Day!

It’s Canada Day, and our nation is celebrating its 148th “birthday”! Time for a picnic with thousands of festivity attendees in the park! Later on, our national anthem will resound proudly from all those voices before the impatiently awaited fireworks display begins. Children will happily stay up far too late, and everyone will chant “oooh” and “aaah” at every boom and burst of colour in the sky.

We don’t often sing or hear the second verse of our national anthem (English text by Robert Stanley Weir) but for me, today, the beginning lines are special:

“O Canada! Where pines and maples grow,
Great prairies spread, and lordly rivers flow,
How dear to us thy broad domain
From East to Western Sea…”

Starting out…

Why so special? Today I finally finished revamping an old web project: a travelogue of our flight in a Cessna 150 (2-seater small plane) from Ontario to Alberta, in July 2003. While technology (both for web and aviation) has changed, and no doubt some of the landscape too over these twelve years, the beauty of our country is still fascinating!

For us, personally, in looking at the pictures again, the excitement of the adventure of flying across part of Canada comes rushing back vividly. Enough said! The travelogue is now live on our website, and we invite you to have a look:

We hope you enjoy the experience!

  1. Happy birthday Canada. You don’t look a day older than 100. 😉
Beautiful photos in the travelogue. I love all those forest areas seen from above. ❤
