Garden Musings: On Changes
Perennials I planted ‘round the bower
Have sprung up, green, and hasten on to flower,
While bulbs I placed in careful clumps last fall
Now bloom where squirrels rearranged them all!
From wind-blown seeds that nestled in the ground,
Forget-me-nots here blossom all around
And dandelions raise their heads of gold,
Still briefly welcome, wild and uncontrolled.
But now to weed and plant was my intent,
To feel the earth and breathe its sun-warmed scent,
To fill clay pots with blooms of every hue–
A sacred spot within God’s own purview.
Yet I must rest to heal while others hoe–
My plans transplanted to a separate row.
I love your poetry.

When I lived in Vermont, I remember making individual cages for each tulip bulb…otherwise they’d surely get eaten. Oh gardening. I’m sure out here in the desert, the critters would figure out how to open the cages.

I am actually becoming inspired to try it. I am really afraid of insects. But I really like flowers and fresh herbs. One of my friends had a butterfly bush, and a beautiful bird feeder in her backyard. It was so soothing to watch the birds and the butterflies.

Go for it! You have to protect yourself from biting insects of course (e.g. I hate mosquitoes). But you can start with a small patch of good earth, or even just a couple of pots, and see how it goes. 🙂

I was thinking of a few pots, it might be easier.😊

Yes, probably the best way to start out, especially at your new home where you still have lots to do, I’m sure! 🙂 You’ll see, the pots will add a really nice homey touch, and you can easily move them around as you figure out your spaces. Good luck! 🙂
